Overview

This research master's takes one year full-time or two years part-time, and students sit within a research group. Each undertakes a project agreed with a supervisor, using the facilities of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and its close links with research groups and institutes elsewhere in the University. Nothing is formally examined through coursework, but students join a range of training in knowledge and in working skills, plus specialist courses where suitable. The final assessment depends entirely on the thesis handed in when the programme finishes. The topics available are shaped by the department's research strengths, which lie in infection, immunity and the pathology of body systems. Graduates are ready for further research or for specialist roles in veterinary and biomedical work.
