BA/BS in Chemistry

Chemistry examines the properties and reactivity of matter and supports fields from biology and astronomy to medicine and pharmacology. This 53-55 unit Bachelor of Arts builds a base in general, organic, analytical and physical chemistry, with biology, physics and mathematics as related support and room to study some chemistry areas in more depth. The major is meant to be combined with a minor chosen to match a student's interests and goals, examples being physics, political science, mathematics, data science, business management or computer science. Graduates are prepared for entry-level work as researchers or laboratory technicians, for technical support in government or industry, for management, and for secondary-school teaching. Students are strongly encouraged to join faculty research or take an industry internship off campus. Continuing in the major requires meeting departmental standards, and reentry after removal is only by petition. Students should research graduate and job requirements themselves.
