PhD in Clinical, Counseling and Applied Psychology

The doctoral program in counseling psychology is approved by the American Psychological Association and is offered on campus through the College of Health. It trains students to practice as health service psychologists who integrate theory, research and clinical work. Graduates are prepared for roles in health care settings, universities, counseling centers, hospitals and veterans facilities, and private practice. Students gain supervised clinical experience in varied real-world settings along with a research component aimed at producing new knowledge. Training takes place in a facility with ten practicum rooms, a corridor for observers and group viewing rooms linked to a secure system that records counseling sessions for supervisor feedback. The program emphasizes multicultural competence and social justice values.
