BA/BS in History

Students at California State University, Bakersfield can study history as a Bachelor of Arts, with a Master of Arts also available in the department. The department further provides a social science teaching credential pathway and a minor. The department describes history as a discipline that builds careful analysis of evidence and clear communication, and it frames the work as detective-like investigation of an often incomplete past. Students read broadly across primary material from many societies. Faculty aim to help students write well, think critically, and apply those skills to employment. Majors are encouraged to join the California State University study abroad program, which has sites in more than twenty countries. Prospective students can contact the department directly for advising and further detail about requirements and scheduling.
