Overview

This graduate degree in special education is an advanced degree intended to deepen candidates' command of current research in the field and to build habits of reflection. Coursework gives repeated chances to sharpen critical thinking and writing, and these abilities are demonstrated in a final capstone, either a written exam covering the coursework or a thesis. Graduates have taken leadership posts in school districts and agencies, gone on to doctoral study in education and related fields, and taught part time at CSULB and other institutions. The degree totals 30 units and students typically finish in one and a half to two years. One pathway is fully online and is meant for classroom teachers who already completed a post-baccalaureate credential; these students take six core classes and may apply twelve post-baccalaureate units. Admission is for fall only.
