This degree comes in two master's tracks, one built for elementary teachers and the other for secondary teachers. Applicants choose either the PK-6 focus or the grades 6-12 focus, and both lead to an MA in Education.
The coursework asks teachers to connect research findings and theory with the real problems they meet in schools and communities. The goal is to develop educators who are caring, reflective and effective, and who keep working to improve what their students experience. Classes are delivered in an online modality.
Two pathways exist. The first is intended for working teachers who already hold a post-baccalaureate credential; they take six core classes, may count twelve post-baccalaureate units toward the total, and could finish in three semesters. The degree requires 30 units, or 33 for students who write a thesis. Admission is for fall only, and applicants send a statement of purpose along with a program application.
