This program combines the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential with a Master of Arts in Educational Administration. It prepares people for leadership roles in TK-12 schools, and it is scheduled to suit professionals who are already working.
Students examine what a school leader does and how decisions affect equitable opportunity and achievement for all pupils. The curriculum also looks at cultural, legal, economic, social and political forces that shape education policy and practice. Candidates receive support while preparing for the CalAPA.
Graduates meet credential requirements for posts such as assistant principal, principal and district-level director, and they may move on to assistant superintendent or superintendent roles. Others become teacher leaders, for example teachers on special assignment or academic coaches. The program admits students only in the fall, and applicants complete the Cal State Apply form plus a statement of purpose and a program application.
