Overview
Applied mathematics at Central Michigan is taught on campus and awarded as either a B.A. or a B.S., with 42 hours of required study. It suits students who want to use mathematical tools on practical questions in science, engineering and technology.
The curriculum leans on computation and analysis. Students meet numerical methods, differential equations and optimization, supported by theory from higher calculus, linear algebra and matrices.
Support outside class includes a public lecture series, free tutoring centers staffed for math courses, scholarships set aside for math majors and membership in the Kappa Mu Epsilon honor society. The major can be combined with a minor in computing, data science or computational math, and it connects to accelerated routes into graduate programs. Admission is rolling with scholarship priority on December 1, and students may start in August or January.
