AA/AS in Criminal Justice and Corrections

Administration of Justice at Chabot prepares students for work or further study in law enforcement, corrections, community policing, pre-law and criminal justice. Instruction draws on established social science theory and on the experience of practitioners, so students see what justice professionals do and how political, social and cultural forces shape policy. Over two years, students pair general education with specialized classes covering legal topics, policing, correctional work and security. The department also runs a basic police academy with the county sheriff's office, meeting state peace officer training standards. That academy meets on weekdays during the day, lasts about six months, and suits recruits who can commit full time. Both associate degrees and certificates are offered. Program maps and requirement lists for each award are linked from the department page. Students interested in the academy should follow the link to the Peace Officer Training Academy page, and the department can be reached through its contact page.
