Biology at Chatham studies living systems, moving from genes and cells up to health and disease in people. Students pick between a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts according to their interests and plans.
There are two tracks. The first, cell and molecular biology, deals with genetics, microbiology and how cells work, and it fits future researchers, physicians and graduate students. The second, human biology, concentrates on sciences behind healthcare and includes the prerequisites for the physician assistant master's degree offered at Chatham.
Students use the Buhl Science Complex for laboratory work, and a pre-health advising office assists those headed toward medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy or optometry school. Integrated routes let qualified majors enter two graduate programs early. Prospective students can contact the undergraduate admissions office to ask about requirements, costs and next steps, and the university offers financial awards to newly enrolling freshmen.
