Chatham's communication program looks at how people exchange meaning, balancing hands-on skills with theory. It is shaped around a media landscape where formats increasingly overlap, so all majors begin with a common group of core courses.
After that foundation, each student selects a focus from four options: Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations or Visual Communication Design. Majors also complete an internship, and the program closes with a research seminar where students present the outcome of a major piece of work in journalism, public relations, media and popular culture, or another scholarly subject.
The major is offered through the College of Arts and Sciences and is intended for students who want to work where several kinds of media meet. Prospective students can contact the undergraduate admissions office to ask about requirements, costs and next steps, and the university offers financial awards to newly enrolling freshmen.
