Program details

Overview

The PhD in Information Systems and Technology prepares researchers to produce scholarship that addresses practical problems. The approach is design-centred: students combine creative design with existing theory, then learn to measure how well a designed solution improves human performance and tackles social challenges. Five concentrations allow candidates to follow their own interests, and the schedule works for full-timers and for people already employed. Applications span education, health, government and business. Technical coursework supplies the skills needed to develop information systems solutions. Research takes place in settings such as an ideas lab, a data science lab, advanced GIS work and an AI laboratory focused on human-centered technology. The doctorate may be earned together with another CGU degree, for example an MA in Public Policy, with some units shared. The program has a STEM designation for F-1 international students.
