Cert in Graphic Communications

This certificate lays the groundwork for a career in visual communication by teaching how design principles and elements work. Students work with both traditional methods and digital tools, building comfort with drawing, typography, illustration, and layout. The twenty-seven credits include drawing for design, digital graphic applications, two graphic design courses, typography, three-dimensional design, and two digital illustration classes. A later course addresses user experience, which introduces students to design for screens and interactive products. Because the sequence is foundational, it fits beginners who want to test their interest in the field and people who need a portfolio start before pursuing further study. Credits can be counted toward longer graphic design credentials at the college. The catalog lists each requirement by code and credit value, and the graphic design program page provides additional information about the department and related certificates and degrees.
