Program details
Overview
The Master of Social Work prepares students for advanced social work practice in urban communities and beyond, with a particular focus on people with disabilities. Disability is understood broadly, covering developmental, intellectual, physical, sensory, psychiatric and chronic health conditions, among others.
The program holds accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education and follows New York State Education Department guidance. Students take generalist practice courses and then choose a specialization in disability studies, either clinical practice or macro practice. Four specific courses separate the two specializations.
Study can be full-time over two years or part-time over three or four years, and students with an eligible background may enter with advanced standing. Instruction is hybrid. Admission is for summer or fall only, and the priority application date is in February.
