Human Development is an interdisciplinary major in the College of Human Ecology that studies people from conception through old age. Students examine psychological, social, cultural, and biological development and how it changes across the life course. Lab-based and real-world research are both part of the curriculum, and the program looks at how schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods shape development.
The major prepares students for careers in law, medicine, clinical psychology, education, social work, health care, business, and nonprofit management. Many graduates go on to graduate study in human development, psychology, or sociology. Students learn to connect research findings with real settings such as classrooms, workplaces, and communities. The interdisciplinary structure lets them combine perspectives from psychology, sociology, and biology. Graduates often find the training useful across many professional settings.
