BA/BS in Human Development, Family Studies, and Related Services

Boston University offers, through its Wheelock college, this bachelor's degree to students who plan to work directly with children and families or advocate for them. The college seeks to reshape the educational, social, health, legal and economic systems that influence how fairly young people and families are treated. Its exploratory structure and field-based learning give students time to engage with interdisciplinary education and human development courses before selecting a specialization ahead of junior year. Human development is a practical branch of developmental psychology that follows how people grow and cope with each stage of life from infancy to old age. Students apply theories about thinking, relationships, emotions, the body and culture, and they consider sociological perspectives and how surrounding ecological systems shape development.
