PhD in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics runs doctoral programs in both Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and students are admitted to one or the other. The two sets of requirements differ only slightly and are treated alike in daily practice. Transfers between them are routine if made before the qualifying examination. Applicants who already have graduate work in mathematics must show strong evidence of research capability, and students moving in from other campus programs undergo formal application and review.
