Overview

This master of laws degree is for students who earned a first law degree outside the United States and want advanced study of American law. The flexible curriculum lets students choose core courses that build a base in how the American legal system is organized, how civil law differs from common law, and analyzing legal problems. International students also strengthen their English and professional writing. The degree may help foreign-trained lawyers meet bar exam eligibility in two states, New York and Texas, but applicants must confirm the rules themselves. Credits cannot be transferred to the JD program. The program is offered through DePaul University, and its catalog entry sets out the required courses, learning outcomes and application steps. Prospective students should review that page and speak with an advisor to plan how the degree fits their goals and prior coursework.
