Program details

Overview

This Bachelor of Science is built for students who want careers in public service and community safety. Coursework addresses the technical, social, psychological, and moral dimensions of the justice system, with ethics and fairness running through the whole sequence. The major dates to the 1970s, when a Dominican sister at the college worked with the Madison Police Department to create it. That origin still shapes the program through its ties to local agencies and its sociological approach, which sets it apart from more conventional criminal justice degrees. The aim is to prepare leaders who care about preventing crime and protecting human rights. Graduates may pursue work in policing, corrections, the legal field, homeland security, social services, forensic science, or advocacy on behalf of victims. A human services concentration is also available. Students who want to learn more can reach out to the program director directly.
