Overview
This accredited graduate degree prepares clinicians to evaluate, treat and study communication difficulties and related conditions, including problems with speech, language, thinking and swallowing, in people of all ages. Graduates can work in schools, clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation settings.
Study is full time over six semesters, including summer terms. The curriculum has a bilingual focus, and students spend four of those semesters in clinical rotations, gaining supervised practice. A culminating master's-level project is also required.
Topics include assessment and therapy, feeding and swallowing, alternative communication methods and teamwork across health professions. The program publishes a fall deadline for direct applications and an earlier date for the centralized application service. Clinical rotations form a large part of the training, so students build practical confidence in real healthcare and school settings before graduating and moving into the profession.
