Cert in Applied Horticulture and Horticultural Business Services

Fullerton College offers an Ornamental Horticulture Certificate for students aiming at jobs in the nursery trade, whether in wholesale growing or retail sales. The credential can also support careers in landscape upkeep, including positions in city parks and recreation departments. The course plan starts with a soils class and one of two plant identification pairings, one covering landscape plants and the other covering ornamental trees and shrubs. Students then fill out the program with restricted electives, which range across horticulture principles, applied botany, irrigation, plant propagation, greenhouse and nursery production, turf management, landscape design, entomology, and plant pathology. A second elective group adds subjects such as pest control certification and safety, landscape contracting, and arboriculture. The certificate totals 30-36 units. Every course must be passed with a C or better. The page lists a single learning outcome, which is applying horticultural ideas to practical problems.
