The computer science major and minor build analytical thinking alongside creativity and ethical responsibility. Topics include computer security and networking, and software is used throughout both the computer science and mathematics courses on a campus-wide network. Students learn by building. Independent and small-group projects are standard, and in one course students design a computer from scratch, from hardware logic to a game written in their own programming language. An accelerated three-year path is available, and a laptop with a quad-core processor and a solid state drive is recommended for majors. Students can look into study abroad through brief faculty-led courses abroad or full-semester exchanges, explore internships for credit, and use career resources for job searches and graduate or professional school applications. Faculty advisors and the department chair act as points of contact for prospective students, and the college invites visitors to share their interests so it can send relevant information.
