BA/BS in Dance

The dance major and minor are tailored to many career paths, among them dance therapy, teaching, performing, choreography, criticism and direction, or physical therapy with further study. Faculty mentoring helps students build independence and chart their own course. Students study genres including ballet, pointe, modern and Africanist techniques. The curriculum teaches them to observe, analyze, document and integrate theory with practice, and guest artists in residence add to the program. Students can look into study abroad through brief faculty-led courses abroad or full-semester exchanges, explore internships for credit, and use career resources for job searches and graduate or professional school applications. Faculty advisors and the department chair act as points of contact for prospective students, and the college invites visitors to share their interests so it can send relevant information.
