AA/AS in Audiovisual Communications Technologies/Technicians

The Recording Technology associate degree trains students to operate in professional audio and mixed media studios. Coursework teaches how to apply digital audio knowledge to produce polished, stand-alone recordings as well as sound elements for larger multimedia projects. The program is delivered through the music department at Grand Rapids Community College, an accredited member of a national music schools accrediting body. Incoming students are expected to complete placement testing in advance. Many classes require either finishing MUS 112 along with MUS 120 or reaching a high score on both the music theory and piano placement pretests. The degree sits in the music and theater academic pathway, alongside the digital audio specialist certificate that provides an earlier stepping stone. Graduates are prepared for studio and production roles that depend on strong technical listening and software skills.
