AA/AS in Computer Programming

This associate degree prepares students for programming work in small organizations and in supporting positions within larger ones. It is part of the computer information systems pathway at Grand Rapids Community College and gives graduates the grounding to enter the field soon after finishing. The college describes the job outlook for programmers as strong in this fast-moving, technology-heavy industry. Students who want lasting work in programming are advised to plan on eventually completing a bachelor's degree in computer science, since advancement often depends on job performance and further education. Ethical use of computers is stressed throughout, and all students in the computer information systems area are expected to follow strict standards of conduct. The program connects with sibling degrees in support, networking and web design, which makes it easy to adjust direction while studying.
