MA/MS in Computer Science

This master's degree is meant for people starting out in computing or returning to refresh their skills in data and technology. Hood introduced it as its own degree in 2005, growing out of a computing education tradition at the college reaching back to 1970. Students pick one of two focus areas: artificial intelligence and data science, or cybersecurity. The shared core spans software engineering plus data science, along with machine learning and cybersecurity, while electives extend into areas like deep learning. Alumni have been hired by organizations including Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Life Technologies. The department reports good job outcomes among students from the US and abroad, including those working under optional practical training. Hood undergraduates can shorten the route through the 4PLUS pathway, which pairs a bachelor's degree with this master's. The program page offers ways to request information, arrange a campus visit or apply, and it lists a faculty contact and the catalog for complete requirements.
