Program details

Overview

Houston City College's Accounting program leads to an Associate of Applied Science and prepares students to work as paraprofessionals who support certified public accountants in accounting firms. Graduates are trained as generalists who prepare taxes, assist with audits and put together financial statements. They also learn to check that account balances agree and to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls. The courses qualify students to sit for the CPA exam, and the state's accountancy board has accredited them for that purpose. Students entering an AAS degree must complete TSI testing before their first enrollment. A student may earn only one Occupational Skills Award in an academic year. The program belongs to the Workforce Training track, aimed at starting a career or changing direction quickly.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: TSI testing required prior to first enrollment for all AAS degrees.
