Research drives this thesis-based master's degree in anthropology at Illinois State, which takes about two years. Each student works with advisors whose expertise spans every one of the discipline's four subfields.
A student chooses among five areas of focus. Two are archaeological, historical and prehistoric, while the others are cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and Japanese studies. Seminars stay small. Campus resources include laboratories, comparative collections, and a museum holding, and a summer field school gives hands-on practice.
Once admitted to the master's track, students may add a graduate certificate. One covers women's, gender, and sexuality studies, and another covers teaching English as an additional language. Alumni have moved into doctoral programs, cultural resource management, museum work, nonprofit administration, and classroom teaching. The program page offers the catalog, faculty, a look at graduate life, and a visit signup. General graduate admission rules of the university cover every applicant.
