Overview
The Master of Science in Chemical Sciences is a thesis-based degree with tracks in chemistry and biochemistry. Students finish both courses and thesis work in two academic years, in the chemistry and biochemistry department of the College of Science and Mathematics.
The curriculum is broad and flexible, so it can be tailored to each student's background and interests. Students begin working with potential research mentors early, and in the second year they concentrate on their own thesis project. Research is available across the field, from synthetic organic chemistry to enzymology.
The degree encourages interdisciplinary thinking about problems in chemistry, biochemistry and related areas. Applicants need the general graduate materials plus a strong undergraduate GPA and demonstrated preparation in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics. Classes are in person, with fall and spring entry.
