Lamar Institute of Technology offers this two-year degree to give students a solid grounding in the life sciences. Some graduates go straight to work as assistants, while others move on toward four-year or graduate study. The introductory biology material shows how living systems matter to industry and to the natural environment. The program includes a core of courses that transfers to universities, and it supports plans in pre-nursing, pre-medicine, pre-veterinary study, pharmacy, wildlife work and lab science. Entry-level jobs in laboratories and technical support are available to graduates, although many careers in biology expect a bachelor's degree or beyond, so this associate degree often works as a bridge. Students complete sixty credit hours, forty-two of them in the core, and no special admission rules apply.
