Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Public History is an interdisciplinary program based in the history department. It mixes practical coursework with field experience and draws on faculty and resources from several graduate programs. It prepares students for careers in museums, historic homes, libraries, archives, parks and government agencies at the local, state and national levels. Required study includes an introduction to public history, archives and special collections, and an internship, plus electives chosen from a list. Admission standards match those for the history master's degree, except that a personal statement and GRE scores are not needed. Certificate-only students apply as certificate or professional development students, while those already enrolled in the history master's program can add the certificate through a secondary program request form.
