PGCert in History

This public history certificate at graduate level lets students bring the analytical skills of graduate historical study to practice outside the classroom. Public historians work in museums, documentary film, memorial sites, corporations, law offices and archives. The certificate asks for twelve credit hours, which also count toward the History master's degree. Nine of those hours come from a core and three from an elective, and every student completes an internship. Graduate students in any Virginia Tech program may add the certificate to their studies. People who are not current graduate students can apply to take only the certificate, enrolling part time. The application form shows spring, summer and fall, but new students begin only in the fall term. Instruction is residential on the Blacksburg campus.
