BA/BS in Biological Engineering (Course 20)

Biological Engineering is an undergraduate major offered through the Department of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Students working toward the SB degree pair a departmental sequence with the Institute-wide core, and the catalog presents the whole plan as a degree chart. The core is organized in tiers that open with organic chemistry, subject 5.12, and subject 20.109 fulfills the laboratory requirement. Every major shares one general framework: six science subjects, eight in the humanities, arts and social sciences, two restricted science and technology electives, and one laboratory subject, adding up to seventeen general subjects. A communication requirement runs through both the humanities subjects and the major itself, and students also complete a swimming test and physical education courses.
