Overview
The Fire Academy at McLennan Community College in Waco prepares students to become certified structural firefighters in a single semester. The Fire Protection Technology program pairs classroom teaching with live-fire exercises, a flashover simulation chamber, and guidance from experienced fire service instructors.
Classes meet Monday through Friday during the day. Upcoming academies begin in January 2027 and August 2027, with preregistration opening ahead of each start and a place available to reserve early by contacting the program.
Applicants first apply as MCC students and then apply for financial aid, since the academy qualifies for all aid programs. The program concludes with a Level 1 Certificate, and staff can be reached by email or phone to discuss openings, scheduling, and how to hold a seat on the interest list before preregistration begins.
