AA/AS in Funeral Service and Mortuary Science

This associate degree trains students to become licensed funeral directors and embalmers, a profession that asks for compassion, commitment and creativity. After admission, students are immersed in each area of funeral service. Instruction mixes classroom lectures, lab practice, site visits, seminars, visiting speakers and internships. The campus provides embalming and restorative art laboratories, a conference room for meeting families, a room for choosing merchandise and a chapel. Finishing the program earns the degree and qualifies graduates to sit the national board exam that licensing requires. Course topics include embalming, arrangement conferences, grief studies, business management and the funeral customs of various faiths. The two-year program is based at the West Allis Campus and begins in August. Students should expect a demanding, hands-on course of study.
