Program details

Overview

Physicists take many forms, from natural experimenters to lovers of elegant theory, coders and gifted science communicators, and they go on to varied work in education, research, industry, technology and public service. The doctoral program seeks to train students who reflect this range of backgrounds and talents among future physicists, astrophysicists and biophysicists. The department wants each member to thrive and find an individual path. Admissions decisions weigh everything in an application file, because no single measure fairly assesses every candidate, and the committee aims to enroll capable, committed students positioned to benefit from the training provided. The program culminates in the doctorate.
