Program details

Overview

The PhD at the Silver School of Social Work prepares researchers and educators to advance social justice and the health of communities that face marginalization, at home and worldwide. Training aims to place graduates in academic and research positions. The program builds on the school's record in intervention and implementation science and its attention to inequities. Coursework covers foundational and current theory, numbers-based, interpretive and combined research methods, and specialized study of a topic area, with electives across the wider university for students who want an interdisciplinary angle. Prospective doctoral students can consult the university bulletin page for the full list of requirements, the structure of coursework and research, and the application steps set by the school. Faculty advisers guide students through examinations, research training and the dissertation as they prepare for careers in research and teaching.
