Program details

Overview

Students of plant science and technology at North Dakota State University examine the biology behind how crops are grown today. Because the state ranks high in wheat, barley, canola and sunflower output, coursework and fieldwork happen close to major production. The major was previously called crop and weed science and draws on many disciplines. People who complete it find jobs as agronomists, crop consultants and agricultural researchers, contributing to sustainable food systems. Instruction is delivered on campus, and those majoring in a different subject can add a minor. Learners often mention a friendly community of faculty and classmates who care about the field. Each student receives an assigned advisor to help plan the path ahead. Scholarships tied to need or achievement are offered, and prospective applicants can request information or visit the campus.
