The Educational Studies major gives students a broad grounding in how people learn and how schools and organizations teach. The curriculum draws on liberal arts, scripture and theology, learning theory, psychology, cross-cultural communication, and designing instruction.
Field experiences place students in settings such as businesses and nonprofit organizations, so they can practice skills in contexts that match their intended path. Graduates may pursue classroom roles, international work, or positions in nonprofit and community organizations.
This degree does not itself lead to state teacher certification. Students who want to teach in Washington public schools can follow a pathway into the university's Master in Teaching, which allows some undergraduate credits to count toward the graduate degree and can reduce both cost and time. Prospective students are able to discuss the pathway options with an advisor before choosing which route fits their plans.
