Biology at Ohio Wesleyan examines living systems at every scale, from molecules to whole organisms to the planet's ecosystems. This version of the major gives students the widest freedom in choosing electives, so they can follow whichever biological topics interest them most while still learning core principles.
The department sits within a group of related majors that includes botany, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, neuroscience, genetics, and environment and sustainability. Students are encouraged to look for experiences beyond the classroom, such as independent study, summer research on campus or elsewhere, coursework at a field station, and internships with hospitals or ecological and agricultural centers.
Findings in the field feed back into medicine, farming, and the health of the environment. Travel-learning courses and study abroad give biology students a way to apply what they learn in other countries.
