Overview
The Microbiology major at Ohio Wesleyan builds on biological principles and adds specialized study of bacteria, viruses and fungi, along with immunology and molecular genetics. Students learn to identify, alter and manage microbes that affect health, industry and the environment.
Two degree options are offered. The Bachelor of Science adds chemistry, physics and mathematics and is aimed at students heading to graduate school in this field or to medical school. The Bachelor of Arts suits students drawn to careers in the life sciences or environmental work, and it can also lead to healthcare study.
The major cannot be combined with another major or minor in the Biological Sciences. Students often pair the B.S. with Pre-Medicine, or pair the B.A. with fields in areas like Music or Public Health.
