Program details

Overview

The Carpentry certificate gives students hands-on preparation for building trades work, whether they plan to join a construction crew or take on their own projects. It is taught in person at the Downtown Campus within the Applied Technology Division. Students learn carpentry terminology, how to draft and interpret blueprints, and how to comply with building codes and government rules. They practice laying out, cutting, fabricating, installing and repairing wooden structures with both hand and power tools, and they study worksite safety and project management. The certificate takes one year of full-time study. Graduates who want to continue can move into the Building and Construction associate degree, and a partnership with Northern Arizona University allows a path toward a bachelor's degree in strategic leadership. The program is eligible for Title IV aid and offers military and veterans benefits. Information sessions are available for prospective students.
