The K-5 Literacy Endorsement is a short, fully online program for Arizona teachers who provide reading and writing instruction in elementary grades. The state now requires this endorsement for educators in that role, and the college's approved courses satisfy the coursework requirement. The material starts with how reading and writing are taught, then moves to phonics, word recognition, vocabulary, spelling, fluency and comprehension. Participants also learn assessment and remediation strategies and ways to support students who have literacy difficulties. The endorsement is completed in a single semester through two eight-week courses, taken in order with Part A first and Part B second. Courses are offered in the fall, spring and summer terms, so teachers can fit them around work. Additional admission requirements apply. Arizona's state education board has approved it, and the home campus is Desert Vista.
