This civil engineering degree prepares students to plan, design, inspect and repair infrastructure and to safeguard the public against natural hazards. Graduates may work outdoors gathering environmental data, managing construction, studying traffic or inspecting aging facilities, or in laboratories and offices evaluating materials and designing structures.
Students build a theoretical base in mathematics and science before moving to technical subjects such as structures, geotechnics, water systems, surveying, environmental work, transportation and materials. Courses include surveying basics, engineering geology and fluid mechanics, and many pair lectures with laboratory work using industry-type equipment.
The program is taught on campus in small classes and lists ABET accreditation, enrollment data and graduation data.
