MA/MS in Applied Mathematics

San Diego State University offers an applied mathematics master's degree in two forms: a general track and a concentration in Dynamical Systems and Chaos. Students who come with gaps in their background can be accepted on a conditional basis. They then need to remove those deficiencies during their first year. Expected preparation covers linear algebra, differential equations, advanced calculus, and mathematical programming. Once enrolled, students select among advanced courses, including those on partial differential equations or ordinary differential equations. The degree suits those who want to apply mathematical methods to problems from science and engineering. Prospective applicants should consult the mathematics department's graduate pages for current requirements, application deadlines, and information about the concentration before choosing a path. Students should plan their sequence of courses with a graduate advisor early in the program.
