MA/MS in Mathematics

Candidates for SDSU's mathematics master's degree complete thirty units of approved coursework. The courses are numbered in the 500s, 600s, and 700s. Some applicants arrive without earlier study of linear algebra, abstract algebra, or advanced calculus. They may still be admitted, but only conditionally, and they make up the missing material after enrolling. Required courses include applied real analysis and one on groups, rings, and fields. Students then add more advanced topics of their choosing to complete the total. The program is suited to students who already have a solid mathematical background and wish to deepen it. Anyone planning to apply should consult the department's graduate pages for the full list of requirements, deadlines, and advising contacts. Candidates should plan their schedule of courses with a graduate advisor early in the program.
