AA/AS in Dance

This associate degree from Santa Barbara City College introduces students to dance as a performing art that communicates feeling and cultural meaning. It is demanding physically and asks students to grow in their grasp of aesthetics. The path is aimed mostly at those heading to UC Santa Barbara or another university with a bachelor's degree in dance. Students study the history of the art form from the twentieth century onward, perform in several genres with attention to alignment, and learn to discuss dance theory, creativity and performance. It can also serve as preparation for related performing arts fields or for entry-level work. A sample program map is available.
