Cert in Carpenters

The Carpentry Apprenticeship combines evening classroom learning with on-the-job experience so apprentices can perform as tradespeople after completing it. Classes meet two nights a week in the fall and spring terms, and the apprenticeship lasts two years. Topics include building materials, tools, plans and elevations, floor, wall and roof framing, concrete work, stairs, exterior finishing, drywall and interior trim. Backing comes from the Builders Association of North Central Florida, and students without jobs get help finding sponsoring contractors. Apprentices must be adults, be employable in the trade and work for a participating employer. High school completion is not required. Prospective students are encouraged to speak with an advisor about sequencing, since planning ahead helps them stay on track toward finishing.
