MA/MS in Chemistry

Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers a research-centered Master of Science in Chemistry. Students build a base across analytical, biochemical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, then apply it in original laboratory work. Completion calls for both coursework and a thesis. Graduate research ties into partnerships with national laboratories, and the setting encourages close contact between peers and faculty. Strong performers during the first residency year may move straight into the doctoral program, skipping completion of the master's. Graduates look toward industry, forensics, patent work, food science or further academic study. Prospective students can request information, arrange a visit or take a virtual tour through the university website, and the admissions office handles questions about applying to the graduate program. The program is based in Carbondale, Illinois.
