AA/AS in Journalism

Journalism at Southwestern College focuses on mass communication media, including newspapers, television, radio, magazines, and online outlets. The program stresses clear thinking, solid writing, and strong communication habits. Students are encouraged to explore several disciplines alongside their core classes, and the coursework connects with the campus student newspaper, The Southwestern Sun, where learners can see reporting practice in action. The department presents two routes at the Chula Vista campus: an Associate in Arts degree built for transfer preparation and an Associate Degree for Transfer. Each is intended for students who plan to move on to a university after completing their studies here.
